About dark circles under eyes
What Are Dark Circles?
Dark under eye circles are an easily recognisable condition. Dark circles appear under the eyes more often on older individuals as the skin around the eyes loses elasticity. Because the skin around the eyes is subjected to more stress than most other areas of the skin, this is one of the earliest problem areas for many patients. There are a variety of treatments available that can remedy the condition, and most are relatively non-invasive.
What Causes Them?
Dark circles under the eyes can result from many different causes. They can be an inherited trait related to bone structure and skin pigment. Facial bone structure that produces the appearance of deep-set eyes also contributes to the appearance of shadowed under eye circles. A range of medical conditions can also contribute to the appearance of dark under eye circles from allergies to circulatory problems. And lastly environmental factors can exacerbrate the appearance of dark circles these include stress and fatigue.
What Can I Do?
There are a variety of treatments available for dark under eye circles including laser resurfacing, dermal fillers and chemical peels.
Treatments for dark circles under eyes
Dermal Filler
Dark circles under your eyes can be treated using dermal fillers.
What To Expect
Before your treatment you’ll have a consultation with one of our trained medical team, where we determine the right treatment plan for you. This gives you the opportunity to find out more about the procedure, ask questions about fillers and allows you to make an informed decision about the treatment.
On your treatment day dermal fillers are injected directly into the under-eye area. Often only a very small amount of dermal filler is required to achieve the desired result. Some patients may undergo a second treatment after 6 to 9 months.
Your treatment will take place in Brisbane Skin’s modern medical dermatology rooms. Dermal fillers are only administered by our highly trained nurse Krys Luszczek who has been performing these treatments for over 20 years. We firmly believe you should only trust your face to expert injectors.
The procedure usually takes less than an hour and no downtime is needed following an eye bag treatment.
The Results
You will see a difference immediately – more volume and plumpness under your eyes will reduce the appearance of bags. Typically results last between 18 and 24 months. Although this differs from individual to individual.
EndyMed RF Needling
What Is RF Needling?
Intensif is a RadioFrequency skin needling treatment that is exceptionally effective for skin remodelling, deep within the skin. As well as the physical benefits of skin needling our device emits radio frequency pulses from the tips of the needles into the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production.
How Does Skin Needling Work?
Very fine needles are inserted into the skin, and then radio frequency pulses are administered into the deep tissue through the needles, heating the skin and optimising collagen remodelling.
How Long Is The Treatment?
Please allow 1.5 hours for your treatment, which includes preparation and treatment time. RF Needling is a four treatment course.
PicoSure Laser
PicoSure is a new generation aesthetic lasers and can be used to successfully treat dark circles.
How Does It Work?
PicoSure uses cutting edge medical science to help practitioners treat patients in a new way. Instead of building up heat, PicoSure delivers energy so rapidly (in trillionths of a second) that tiny particles that make up pigment vibrate and shatter, without burning surrounding tissue. Less heat means less tissue damage and less discomfort. It’s technology is designed to harness the body’s natural healing process to restore youthful skin.
What To Expect
You’ll have an initial consultation to determine whether PicoSure is the right treatment for you. On your treatment day there’s no special preparation required and procedures typically take less than 30 minutes. Most people experience no pain and describe the treatments as feeling like the snapping of a rubber band. But your treatment provider may offer numbing cream to minimise any possible discomfort.
The Result
Reduced appearance of dark circles leaving you looking brighter and fresher – with minimal downtime.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels can often help to reduce the appearance of dark circles particularly if the dark circles are caused by hyperpigmnetation.
Chemical peels use a chemical solution to treat your dark circles.
At Brisbane Skin, our medical experts are superb diagnosticians, able to identify skin disorders and prescribe which type of facial peel will deliver the best possible outcome for each individual. This is extremely important as chemical solutions for peels come in three distinct strengths and the eye area is particularly sensitive.
The team at Brisbane Skin is skilled at performing medical grade facial peels. They are also experts at creating personalised home care regimens that can enhance and maintain the results of a facial peel. Our skin care specialists work with patients to ensure they know what to do to extend the benefits of a chemical peel and help prolong the glow of fresh, healthy skin.
Following your chemical peel, skin regenerates naturally. New skin comes to the surface, giving the complexion a more youthful texture with a uniform colouration that blends well with the untreated skin.
Topical Prescriptions
In some cases your dark under eye circles can be treated by prescription topical medication.
