About eye wrinkles

What Are Eye Wrinkles?

Wrinkles are the lines and creases that form around your eyes. Some wrinkles can become deep crevices or furrows and may be especially noticeable around your eye area. If you’re concerned about the appearance of the skin around your eyes, we recommend you see a dermatologist. who can your skin and recommend a personalised treatment plan.

What Causes Them?

Eye wrinkles are caused by a combination of factors — some within your control and some that aren’t. As you age your skin becomes less elastic and more fragile. A decrease in the production of natural oils dries your skin and makes it appear more wrinkled. And the fat in the deeper layers of skin diminishes causing loose saggy skin and more-pronounced lines and crevices. Other causes can include exposure to UV light which speeds up the natural ageing process, smoking and repeated facial expressions such as squinting or smiling.

How To Treat Eye Wrinkles

There are wide range of treatments available for eye wrinkles from temporary wrinkle injections to long lasting laser treatments. At your consultation we’ll discuss your concerns, your lifestyle and the best treatment option for you.

Treatments for eye wrinkles

Muscle relaxants

Muscle relaxant injections (anti wrinkle injections) can be placed around the eye area to stop the formation of more wrinkles and reduce the appearance of existing wrinkles.

How Muscle Relaxant Injections Work

Muscle relaxant injections are made directly underneath your skin. As an anti-aging procedure, they work by relaxing the muscles around your eyes. These muscles contract when you smile, talk, or laugh, which can lead to wrinkles and other skin changes over time.

What To Expect At Your Treatment

Your treatment will take place in Brisbane Skin’s modern medical dermatology rooms. Muscle relaxant injections are only administered by our highly trained nurse Krys Luszczek who has been performing these treatments for over 20 years. We firmly believe you should only trust your face to expert injectors.

Before your treatment you’ll have a consultation, where we determine the right treatment plan for you. This gives you the opportunity to find out more about the procedure, ask questions about fillers and allows you to make an informed decision about the treatment.

The procedure usually takes less than an hour and no downtime is needed following the appointment.

How Soon Will You See Results?

You’ll start noticing the effects of your anti-wrinkle injections within a week. Your facial muscles may start relaxing after three days.

CO2 Laser

Laser skin resurfacing using a CO2 laser is a laser procedure performed by a specialist laser dermatologist. It improves skin texture and the appearance of eye bags.

Key Benefits Of CO2 Laser Treatments

  • One off treatments
  • Dramatic results
  • Long lasting

How Does It Work?

CO2 laser treatment for skin rejuvenation is widely considered to be one of the most effective skin resurfacing techniques available today. The laser aims an intense wavelength of light on damaged skin and vaporises the outer layers that have been affected by sun, age, and other factors. In addition to destroying damaged skin, the laser stimulates underlying skin cells to trigger collagen production.

Is This Treatment Suitable For Me?

Laser skin resurfacing is not appropriate for everyone who visits Brisbane Skin. Our experts meet with each patient to determine whether s/he is a good candidate for the treatment. We do a complete medical history, find out about your lifestyle, and work to get to know you as a person. During your consultation with our Specialist Dermatologist and Plastic Surgeons , we will discuss your expectations for the results. Being realistic about what this treatment can accomplish for you is a major factor in success.

What Does The Treatment Involve?

Laser skin resurfacing targets the outer layer of your skin while simultaneously heating the lower layers in the dermis. This will promote collagen production. Ideally, new collagen fibres will help produce new skin that is smoother in texture and firmer to the touch.

Does The Treatment Require Downtime?

Recovery from this laser resurfacing treatment takes up to two weeks.

Ablative Laser

What Is An Ablative Laser?

Ablative laser treatment for skin rejuvenation is widely considered to be one of the most effective skin resurfacing techniques available today. The laser aims an intense wavelength of light on damaged skin and vaporises the outer layers that have been affected by sun, age, and other factors.

In addition to destroying damaged skin, the laser stimulates underlying skin cells to trigger collagen production. The result is a noticeable improvement in facial fine lines and wrinkles.

What Should You Expect At The Treatment?

Ablative laser skin resurfacing is performed on an outpatient basis at our clinic in Brisbane. When you arrive for your treatment, you skin will be cleaned thoroughly and you will be given protective eye gear. A topical anaesthetic will be used to numb your skin.

If required, you may also be given anaesthetic injections in areas on your face, and sedative injections in your arms. You will not be undergoing general anaesthesia, but may be very sedated and comfortable.

Once you are comfortably numb, your Brisbane Skin doctor will direct the ablative laser’s intense beam of light onto the treatment areas.

How Long Does The Procedure Take?

An ablative laser skin resurfacing session lasts from 30 minutes to one hour, depending primarily on the size of the treatment area.

Fraxel Dual Laser

Fraxel is the leading brand of fractional lasers for cosmetic rejuvenation. Fraxel laser treatments can be used to correct a wide range of skin problems and reduce visible signs of ageing around the eye area.

What Is Fraxel Dual?

Fraxel Dual is by far the most requested fractional laser procedures today. Fraxel laser skin rejuvenation targets damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate beneath the skins surface.

The laser treats only a fraction of skin tissue at a time, which is how the treatment gets its name “fractional.” Fraxel skin resurfacing leaves the tissues around the treatment area intact, which promotes rapid healing. This stimulates your body’s own natural healing process, replacing the old and damaged cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.

What Are The Key Benefits?

  • Minimal downtime, usually between 1 and 7 days depending on the extent of the treatment.
  • Higher level of comfort. Only topical anaesthesia is required.
  • Suitable for both men and women, of all ages and skin colours.
  • Non-ablative (non-wounding); this treatment does not break the surface of the skin.
  • Treatment can vary in intensity, as required for your condition.
  • Accompanied by dermatologist-prescribed skincare regime.

Endymed RF Needling

What Is RF Needling?

Intensif is a RadioFrequency skin needling treatment that is exceptionally effective for skin remodelling, deep within the skin. As well as the physical benefits of skin needling our device emits radio frequency pulses from the tips of the needles into the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production.

How Does Skin Needling Work?

Very fine needles are inserted into the skin, and then radio frequency pulses are administered into the deep tissue through the needles, heating the skin and optimising collagen remodelling.

How Long Is The Treatment?

Please allow 1.5 hours for your treatment, which includes preparation and treatment time. RF Needling is a four treatment course.

The Results

Patients see noticeable results after the first treatment and continue to improve after the final treatment.
