Fraxel Fractional Laser

Fraxel laser resurfacing can address a number of different concerns and conditions. This is because the treatment stimulates ongoing collagen production, and collagen is a protein that is involved in tissue regeneration. The Fraxel laser is a tried and true approach to skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime and noticeable results.

How does it work?

Fraxel laser skin rejuvenation targets damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate beneath the skins surface.

The laser treats only a fraction of skin tissue at a time, which is how the treatment gets its name ‘fractional’. Fraxel skin resurfacing leaves the tissues around the treatment area intact, which promotes rapid healing. This stimulates your body’s own natural healing process, replacing the old and damaged cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.

Fraxel can address specific problems like:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation (Melasma)
  • Scarred or pocked skin
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Rough, dull skin

About Fraxel Fractional Laser Treatment

What is Fraxel?

Designed to provide an alternative to ablative devices without the need for extended down time, this treatment uses wavelengths of light that penetrate deeper into the skin creating heating. The heat generated causes remodelling of the collagen layer of the skin (dermis). It also turns over surface skin cells to improve pigmentation and tone.

Many of these devices use fractional technology where only a portion of the skin is treated at a given time to facilitate less downtime.

The consultation

At your consultation, we will ask for your complete medical history, learn about your lifestyle, and make every effort to understand the full picture of you as a person, as well as a patient. If you are not a suitable candidate for Fraxel, you will be given alternative treatment options by your dermatologist.

As part of your consultation, the team at Brisbane Skin will discuss what you hope to achieve. Being realistic about what this treatment can accomplish and understanding what cosmetic enhancement will do for you both physically and emotionally is an important factor in a successful outcome.

Downtime

Downtime varies between 1 – 5 days depending on skin type, intensity of treatment and conditions being treated.

Side effects

Over the next few days, you may experience some itchiness or skin sensitivity (to touch or temperature). Both are indications of the natural renewal process and typically dissipate a few days after treatment.

You will be recommended a skin care plan to guide you through the healing and beyond.

Results

The results of treatment are both immediate and progressive. A few days after the treatment, the skin will start to feel softer, look brighter and show more even tone. Results can last for months, depending on age, skin condition and how you protect your skin.

Clinical studies highlights include:

  • Improvement in the look of fine lines
  • Reduction in the appearance of pores
  • Improvement to skin tone and texture
  • Improvement in skin’s overall appearance
  • Improvement in the appearance of dyschromia
